CEO / CCO & Award-Winning Author/Director RICHARD HUMPHREY Anticipates & Celebrates THE RIDE’S 800,000th Rider, August 30, 2018.
“THE RIDE takes full advantage of the natural excitement of New York City,
its eclectic inhabitants and electric atmosphere.”
“THE RIDE is a spectacular immersive and interactive entertainment experience that moves you through
Midtown Manhattan as an ever-changing show featuring actors, performers, and New York citizens unfolds before you.
Each vehicle features over 3,000 LED lights, 40 video screens, an IMAX Theater’s worth of audio equipment,
cutting-edge speakers and “floor-shaker” sound system technology that
emulates everything from passing subways to a thumping nightclub.”
“One of the most fascinating aspects of THE RIDE is how everyone becomes a performer in the experience, both inside and outside the bus. Written and directed by Richard Humphrey, THE RIDE is a piece of careful choreography that takes the city streets as its stage. The fun is contagious. The energy and enthusiasm overflows. This is a phenomenon that could happen only in New York.”

FASTEN YOUR SEAT BELTS.
“Fasten your seat belts and embrace the city. THE RIDE is a shared experience and something to be talked about. It takes on a cinematic aura. This is, after all, how movies and Broadway shows work. While walking down a street, someone breaks into song and dance, just as strollers do here. On THE RIDE you watch the passersby look in pleasure at the theatrical indulgence of the performers on the sidewalk; you almost expect them to join in. Quite a few conversations started on the sidewalk as the bus rocked by. The street is quite a RIDE. All motor coaches should be built this way.”
-New York Times
THE RIDE IS INGENIOUS. IT’S LIKE WATCHING A MOVIE.
“There’s a show on every corner in New York and that fact has been woven ingeniously into THE RIDE, a new sightseeing experience proudly wheeling around and through Manhattan. THE RIDE rolls on vehicles pimped-out in razzle-dazzle. What makes THE RIDE so unique is its street performers positioned strategically along the bus route who get in on all the action. Their moments are charming and delightful. Even if you know the city, you haven’t seen it from this panoramic view. It’s like watching a movie unfold live. THE RIDE lets you see the city with fresh eyes.”
-Joe Dziemianowicz, NY Daily News
A ROCK STAR BUS ON STEROIDS.
“Listen my children and you shall hear of the midnight ride – not of Paul Revere – but of the new bus THE RIDE. Three new, custom-built, amped-up, rock-star-sized buses, the tallest allowed by federal law, with three rows of stadium seating facing massive windows. Each costs $1.25 million with an IMAX Theater’s worth of equipment — 3,000 LED lights, 40 video monitors emulating even subway sounds. With New York City as a stage, THE RIDE is a sightseeing bus on steroids.”
-Cindy Adams, New York Post
Richard Humphrey Has Conceptualized What The Future of Tour-Bus Entertainment Will Be Like In NYC And Far Beyond.
“The Ride has become a staple of the Big Apple, so much so, that the company’s cutting-edge buses are an EXPECTED presence in the streets of MIDTOWN MANHATTAN. They have become as much a fabric of the tourist industry as Madame Tussaud’s.
However, CEO/CCO, Richard Humphrey doesn’t like to sit back and have his product become stale. He continues to diversify and conceptualize what the future of tour-bus entertainment will be like in NYC and beyond. His efforts have led to several acclaimed incarnations and experiences of this traveling phenomenon. First, there’s the flagship property, The Ride, which has become so culturally significant that it was featured on The Simpsons, which is perhaps the hallmark of acceptance.
The Tour is the company’s second project; a sightseeing adventure with a navigator and a slew of multimedia offerings that magically enhance the experience.
Mr. Humphrey’s latest offering is The Downtown Experience, a 90-minute exploration of lower Manhattan that utilizes Virtual Reality technology to bring the extremely important history of this neighborhood to life. It is a multimedia EXPERIENCE through the birthplace and once again the thriving pulse of New York City, which is Downtown, south of Canal Street. Except in this particular case, it is very different from The Ride because it’s not based on the street being the stage.
As Mr. Humphrey said in a recent phone interview, ‘The big difference — because I always like to push the technology forward — is that it’s enhanced with virtual reality, so during the course of the adventure, we’ll have some moments where you’ll put on your headsets. And everybody aboard will go back and experience monumental moments in history.’
The Virtual Reality component of The Downtown Experience has presented some welcome challenges as well.
As Mr. Humphrey shared, ‘I had to come up with a solution with my team of how we could seamlessly launch this virtual reality simultaneously on all 49 headsets, so we’ve got a patentable app that is now able to do that,’ he said. ‘I think that that really makes the adventure seamless because the Storyteller can announce, ‘All right, ladies and gentlemen, put your headsets on, and let’s go to Gen. George Washington’s inaugural, 1789.’ And then we transform through CGI the Federal Plaza into the actual landscape architecturally of how it looked in 1789.’
And then, of course, it becomes a costume drama in 360 green screen with 300 actors in period costumes and, of course, the star, General George Washington, crossing through the plaza.”
