THE RIDE is celebrating Literacy Month with Boogaloo the Fairy! Join us from 12:30 to 3 PM on Saturday Sept. 8 and Sunday Sept. 9 at Theatre 80 on St. Mark’s Pl. for a free reading even with dance, song, music, art, cookies and milk! Be sure to RSVP via email here or here, and bring the grandparents, because Sunday is Grandparents Day.
In honor of Literacy Month and in support of a Kickstarter initiative that will go live this September, check out this free reading and performance of the first chapter of BOOGALOO, the story of a feisty fairy who lives and dances in shoes from across the globe, but stands only 2 ½ inches tall! This cross cultural event brings BOOGALOO to life from Lapacazo M. Herandez-Sandoval’s book with the unique musical talents of Arman Dixon, and choreography and dance by Arielle Rosales and John Rua.
BOOGALOO is the second of three children’s stories designed exclusively for the mobile generation to combine video, animation, illustration, and original music. The others are Nite Nite Sleepy Town (where souls sleep) and Lady, the Smiling Pitbull (whose adventures are in NYC).
Kickstarter.com is a crowd-funding tool that supports creative projects and ambitious ideas with the help of over 2 million donors. The Kickstarter in support of these stories launches in the fall to support several young, inner-city artists who are reaching for their dreams and trying to overcome economic disadvantage.
Sponsors include My Gym UWS, WABC-TV, myNewYorkeye, Organic Valley Corp, New York Rentals, Plum Organics, and Theater80.
