With the recent launch of THE DOWNTOWN EXPERIENCE, the exciting new NYC sightseeing attraction that combines traveling theater with the magic of Virtual Reality, I’ve started to wonder about how VR will change the world. Hey, it’s THE RIDE here with some thoughts about how you can experience Virtual Reality today… and some of the possibilities this exciting technology offers for the future.
If you’ve never tried VR, there are some great places in New York that now offer this innovative way of moving through time and space. My favorite (of course!) is THE DOWNTOWN EXPERIENCE, in part, because it offers two kinds of Virtual Reality experiences: a chance to go back in time, featuring the VR technology from our friends at TimeLooper, (so you can see what Manhattan was like in the time of the Lenape Indians) and the feeling of flying through the air (so you can see close-ups of the tops of some of NYC’s most impressive skyscrapers). One VR interlude even combines the two, so you can experience the 1929 stock market crash from all angles and perspectives.
It is this possibility of experiencing the world from different perspectives that interests me most. I love that with Virtual Reality, you can travel to a specific place and relive its iconic historic moments, such as when THE DOWNTOWN EXPERIENCE takes you to Federal Hall so you can time-travel back to George Washington’s inauguration as the first U.S. President there. But I also love the idea that someday, we’ll all be able to go a step further and actually walk a mile in someone else’s moccasins, so to speak, and really be able to understand how they see the world.
Until that’s possible, I invite you to enjoy the glories of today’s Virtual Reality with THE DOWNTOWN EXPERIENCE. Click here to sign up now.
